Is Pucci a stoic villain ? Thoughts on Jojo Part 6 Story and stocism
SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE PART 6 OF JOJO/ IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED JOLYNE'S SEASON/STONE OCEAN, BE CAREFUL
Enrico Pucci for me is one of the characters with the most ''stoics'' outlook in anime I've ever seen, in the sense of loving fate, amor fati, of total acceptance of all the bad events in life. His plan to ''achieve heaven'', from what I understood, consists of recreating the universe into a parallel universe where all people already know the future when they are born. As in JoJo's work the characters believe in fate, and Araki suggests that in JoJo's universe certain things are ''destined'' to happen, like all those with the Joestar star on their backs defeating villains every season...
In this way Pucci wishes to create a universe where people are already born knowing their destined events. With this, he does not wish to create worldwide panic, but rather to force an attitude of ''total acceptance of fate'' on a global scale, because he assumes that if you know in advance everything that will happen in your future, you can more easily accept reality, whether it is good or bad, since you will be able to emotionally prepare yourself for the canonical events.
This, in my point of view, reflects a totally stoic mindset of eliminating negative or positive judgments, and simply accepting whatever comes with calmness. Something like the concept of ''amor fati''. The definition I wanna use here for amor fati is this simple, quick one I found on google search:
''Amor fati is a Latin phrase that may be translated as 'love of fate' or 'love of one's fate'. It is used to describe an attitude in which one sees everything that happens in one's life, including suffering and loss, as good or, at the very least, necessary''
Of course, in practice I think such an attitude, of preparing for everything emotionally before it happens, is quite difficult and I can’t believe that I myself would be able to do it, at least not nowadays... But for me the idea of total acceptance of what is going to happen even before it happens reminds me a lot of an attitude of supreme emotional resilience.
In analogy with deltarune, it would be as if he had taken very seriously that contract with Gaster of ''you will accept everything that happens from now on'' from the survey_program. But in this case, the survey_program would be everyday reality itself.
